So it’s finally happening. You’ve had your consultation at our orthodontic location in Dalton, Georgia, taken X-rays, picked out the t-shirt, and enjoyed your last apple/gum/popcorn chewing for a while. You’re getting braces! You’re feeling good, maybe a little sore, but mostly excited to get this beautiful-smile journey started!

While having braces won’t change any of your day-to-day activities, there might be some adjustments you make along the way!

You might experience some soreness after certain visits. Your teeth could be sore for up to a few days. In these situations, pain medications such as Advil or Tylenol will ease any discomfort. But the good news is those days will be few and far between – sometimes our patients do not feel any soreness at all!

What to eat? What to not eat? Those are some of the most common questions we get when braces are placed on. No need to worry, we’ve listed foods below that you shouldn’t eat.

You’ve probably heard that popcorn is on the orthodontic food naughty list, but did you know that you also shouldn’t eat bagels or hard rolls? Ice is another no-no, as well as all sticky foods such as caramel, chewy candies, and any type of gum. Try and stay away from nuts and hard candy too! You might have heard that you shouldn’t eat apples or carrots, but that isn’t true. Make sure you cut these foods into small pieces and you can enjoy all you want!
